The name comes from the Latin Canaria Insulae (“Dogsky Islands”), which is associated with a not small number of wild pieces found by the discoverers on the archipelago.
Based on Europeans visited the archipelago in the fourteenth century, and by the end of the 15th century, these terrains completely captured the Spaniards, without looking at the fact that, earlier, they had personal species of the French, Portuguese. The Canary Islands later fought other countries, but Spain was able to save their own control over them.
In 1927, the Nationalist Party of the Canary Islands (Partido Nacionalista Canario) officially accepted a personal sign – a blue cloth with the seven stars of the BeloTowet on it, by the number of islands, the procedure for the placement of which was similar to the order of their location in the ocean.
In 1961, the winners of the movement “Free Canara” (Canarias libre) was invented a new sign – a blue-white-yellow flag. But in the first half of the 60s of the 20th century, the movement for the independence of the free Society of the Canary Islands (MPAIAC) changed the blue color to the light blue with the stars in a circle.
The Sign of the Free Society of the Canary Islands was officially approved in August 1982 in the form of white-blue-yellow vertical bands, which in April 1989 did not change – the emblem of the Canary Islands was added to the current symbolism.
Description
The municipal flag of the Free Society of the Canary Islands is a three-color White-blue-yellow cloth from uniform vertical stripes. The coat of arms of the Canary Islands is depicted on the central part – the shield on which the seven islands of white color are deposited, and the Crown of Spain rushes over the shield, talking about accessories Spanish kingdom. Over the crown there is an inscription Oceano, testifying about the geographical position: the Atlantic Ocean. The shield support brown dogs to the left and right.
The widths of the panel and the ratio of length are 2 to 3. The width of each strip is equal to one third of the flag length.
